@AlbertHamik EDIT: Oh, well I see that AsbestOS basically allows for RSX access now, so whatever I said about GPU access is null-and-void, here. I happily await this projects growth, and hope Sony doesn’t try to quash it’s development. Those bastards.
@AlbertHamik And B. It’s possible that with AsbestOS, the PS3 Homebrew community could perfect that full GPU implementation support they’d been boasting about during the period in which OtherOS was still around. Or is that already in motion? Dunno, but there’s some of my reasoning why. Agree? Disagree?
@WunderDoob Well, for now, it seems to be the latter. However, there are two things that make the PS3 favorable for running linux. A. It’s getting cheaper now. Maybe not worth it’s weight in gold for, say, gaming, but there’s more than enough of a comprehensive amount of compilers out there, that one could port over alot of Linux titles to the system. Wine would probably be difficult to implement, as it only runs on x86 hardware, unless Darwine has gotten anywhere close yet to emulating x86.
@RunOnTuxPower
Anything Linux can do, PS3 can do as long as you get the bootloader working.
The only limitation really is the 256MB of RAM, even though it’s extremely quick XRAM, it’s still a small amount to have. Hence not many heavy apps that work on desktop Linux will work on PS3.
@marcan42 will it ever be possible to have 1 unified boot where we can use linux and game os with a single boot?like could we boot into gameos linux/asbestos,and have full 3d rsx chip&spe/spu access support,then be able to launch a ps3 game from either BR or usb hdd backup right from the linux desktop,then exit out of the game back to asbestos linux?or any way to do something similar in a convient way like that?
Duuuude you have a PBO(Patriot Box Office)!!! I love that little device, I’m even using it right now to watch a movie! I love that little linux powerhouse.
The way I could tell is you have the remote next to your monitor.
u know i really lost interest in installing linux on ps3 after they removed otherOS like somebody cut off your dick like you wanna masterbate but you cant you kno that feelin?
Is it possible to use the CPU to rip a movie very fast under Linux on the PS3 with AsbestOS?
If yes, PS3 could be a nice machine if some CPU-required work was needed.
thx for this video man, really nice to see somebody actually explain everything about ps3 and linuxbooting, not just a video showcasing that it is possible
Jajajajajajajaja, la transcripcion del audio y luego la traduccion al español da como resultado un combo surrealista donde aparece Clinton, Hamas, Nazis, jajaja, es acojonante, es increible!!!
