Choosing a Data Center: Shared Versus Dedicated Cabinets & Racks
by admin on Nov.16, 2011, under Datacenter
Just like collocation flooring there are two types of collocation offerings: shared and private rack space. In a shared environment a single cabinet or rack contain equipment from two or more customers. In a private cabinet, only a single customer’s collocation is installed. This allows for more security and room to grow in the future. If you have a small equipment footprint, then the facility offers escorted or non-customer access. This may be acceptable depending on the nature of your business. Shared rack space is not recommended for mission critical equipment, especially if unescorted access is allowed.
